Q: 2001 honda prelude brake light in dash stays on. What does that mean?
I got the car about a month ago and it didnt have an owners manual. Just recently whenever the car would be parked for a while and i would come out and turn it on and start driving the parking brake light would stay on. It will eventually go off but come back on again once i brake then go off again a few seconds after i let off the brake pedal. Does anybody know what this means?

A: mine was doing that and the dealer replaced the brake fluid cap. i guess it has a sensor in the cap.

A: Well the best option is the Greddy E-Manage Ultimate. It has all the features you cold possibly want and then some. It can control you timing, fuel curve, VTEC actuation point, idle RPM, plus all kinds of other things. I currently have one in my 99 civic with a built and sleeved turboed B16 that pushes 497 HP at the front wheels on 25 PSI of boost. It is an amazing piece of equipment.

Q: I just bought a 2001 Honda prelude and i have a question for you guys.?
I want to change the front lip and also the back lip with some OEM lips but in order to install these lips on the car, am i going to have to replace the bumper too? so the lip could fit? or i just have to pull out the stock lips and put the new ones withought replacing the bumper??

A: I think you are a little confused. You say you want to replace the stock lip with OEM lip. Unless you have an imported Predlude, your stock lips are OEM. OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer. Now, If you meant that you wanted to buy non-OEM, ie: aftermarket, then you can find lips that will not require you to get a whole new bumper. When searching for an after market lip, just make sure it say that it fits OEM or USDM (United States Domestic Market) bumper. Not aftermarket or JDM (Japanese Domestic Market). I hope this answers your questions.

Q: 2001 honda prelude check engine light came on. any ideas?
My friend has a 2001 Honda prelude. On her way to work this morning the check engine light came on. She took it to a certified honda mechanic / dealership to have it checked out. A few hours later they called her and said it was fixed and she went and got it. They told her " See it all the time. the fuel tank lid was'nt on correctly and it raises heck with the fuel injection." charged her $25.00 for reading her codes and sent her packing. She told me and I was kinda floored that they tried that and that she bought it. My question is; Is there any way possible that the fuel cap would cause that light to come on? I swear this is serious and not a joke it really happened.

A: ive been a honda tech for over 25 years & i see this at least once a week. if the cap is not tight enough, the light will come on. tighten it till you hear 5-6 rapid clicks to prevent it. the tech did the right thing

Q: How do I check the timing belt on a 2001 Prelude?
I recently got a 2001 Honda Prelude. All the cars I've owned before have be rear wheel drive with a small block. Will I need to pull the valve cover to get to the timing belt cover?

A: First things first. Check the back of owners manual for the maintenance schedule. I believe it the timing belt shouldn't need changed till 105,000 miles. So if your not close to that, don't worry about it. But once it does get to it, take it to a Honda Dealership or a garage that specializes in Honda's and have them do it. It's pretty time consuming, about 4 hours with the right tools. The cost of the parts isn't much at all. Probably around a $100. It's the labor that gets ya. Also, it's a good idea to replace the water pump at this time as well, because the timing belt goes around the water pump pulley as well. Only makes sense to do it while you're in there.

Q: Does anyone, in the Dallas area, have a 1997 -2001 Honda Prelude with automatic transmission for sale?

A: Try the auto sites like Yahoo autos

Q: 2001 Honda Prelude makes 'whumping' sound while driving?
It sounds like it is coming from the rear tire area. There doesn't seem to be any uneven wear on the tires and it doesn't affect handling or driveablity. It's like a low whumping sound that gets faster paced the faster I drive until it's like a steady low hum on the highway. What could it be?

A: You can determine if its a tire related problem by having the tires rotated (front to rear) and, if necessary, cross-rotated (in an X pattern) to see if the noise changes or moves with the tires. Often times a slight cupping in the tires will be elimiated by moving a rear tire that is cupped to the front where the weight of the engine causes the tire to deflect and eliminate the noise. if the noise doesn't move when the tires are rotated, the probability is that you have a bad wheel bearing at whichever side your hearing the noise from. There are a few other possibilities before condemning the wheel bearing. Another thing that causes the type of noise you have is not tire related. That type of noise can be caused by driving with one window partially open. For example, if you have the driver's window open about 2" and the other windows shut, you actually will get a 'thumping' noise as the pressure differences between the air going over the car and the air inside the car cause the air fronts to collide. If you drive with the one window open, open the window on the other door and see if it eliminates the noise as you will equalize the pressure by opening another window. Most cars have pressure vents in the rear body behind the rear wheels and they could be the source of the noise as well. These vents are basically plastic doors at the back of the car under the bumper sides that allow the pressure waves that are created when you shut the door to exit the car through the vents. you may want to turn the interior fan blower motor 'HIGH" when you hear the noise to see if this changes the noise. Using the blower motor will pressurize the interior and should open the vents to release the pressure. If the noise is still there then the vents are working and its something else. in order of probability, its usually a cupped tire followed by a bad wheel bearing provided you're not driving with only one window open. I recommend you take it to a honda dealer and ask to have a technician road test the vehicle with you. most dealers won't charge to have someone do this. then at least you'll have a professional opinion of what the cause is. hope that helps

Q: Is it expensive to replace the airbags/ module on a 2001 honda prelude, is it even worth buying the car?

A: First of all, make sure that this car WAS NOT WRECKED. Everything starts going wrong once a car is wrecked. Also make sure the airbags never went off, because that significantly lowers the car's value. But as long as it wasn't wrecked, and the airbags didn't go off, I would buy it and just keep no airbags in it. Then again, if I had a 2001 prelude I would take out the airbags. Airbags are not good for people who drive with one hand on top of the wheel, because when they go off it'll shove your hand right through your face, and break your arm. And by saying that I drive with one hand on the top of the wheel, I am in no way saying that I drive aggressively, because I don't. It just gives you better control.
