Q: Can a 1998 Honda Prelude handle a turbo?
I cant afford it now, but I think it would be sweet to put a turbo in my Prelude. I was told though that it's engine cant handle it and a bunch of other stuff.....Can a Prelude handle a turbo?

A: none of these people know anything... an h22 isnt the best motor to boost but if you only run 6 or 7psi and get it TUNED then you'll be fine.

Q: Will a 1998 Honda Prelude really become a collector car?
I know they are pretty rare, but I really don't think they will turn out like a supra or rx-7. I've heard this from a few people tho. Do you think it will hold it's value for a while or end up cheaper like the 4th gens are?

A: They are more rare than S2000's...go look at ebay motors...there are twice as many S2000s as there are Preludes and how many more Preludes were made over the 30 years they were produced? They were never produced in limited quantities they were just bought in limited quantites and it was one of the few cars Honda still assembled in Japan. Thats why they stopped making them, nobody bought them. The very first generation Preludes are making more money than i'd ever give for them...along with the Z600s...one that has been restored or origional in good shape is bringing 6k+ on ebay. I actually just sold my '98 Prelude because it had a ton of miles on it (185k actually) and when you see one with low miles they still want 12-14 thousand dollars for them...i think those cars, like the SH models, or just ones with low miles that are origional will be worth in 30 years what they are worth now. Just finding somebody that sees the value in an outdated overweight 30-year-old-Honda will be the trick. I know if I was filthy rich I'd be collecting them

Q: What oil viscosity should be used in a high mileage 1998 Honda Prelude?
The owners manual recommends 5W30. However, a mechanic that has worked on it for several years recommends 10W30 and even 10W40 for the summer because of its high engine wear at 112k miles and use at high RPMs. I'm using 10W30, and most people I ask say that 10W40 is just way too thick.

A: 10/40 isn't too thick , you could go with straight 30 with no problem .

Q: How do I enter the radio unlock code for a 1998 Honda Prelude?
Just bought this car, I have the radio unlock code and the message on the stereo says err1. Just was wondering how i actually enter the 5 digit code into the stereo....

A: If the unit is locked it should say "Code" on the display. If it says "err1" then it is either a different problem or the wrong code has been entered too many times. If the wrong code was entered too many times then you will have to leave the car sit with the ignition key turned on for one hour. This will reset the radio and allow 3 more attempts to unlock the unit. The code is entered by using the preset buttons to display the proper code then press the am/fm button to enter it. If it goes back to reading "err1" after 3 attempts then you do not have the correct code for that unit. If all else fails you can call a Honda dealership and they can help you get the correct code and instruct you on how to properly enter it.

Q: How many horsepower and how many pounds of torque does a 1998 Honda Prelude have?

Q: What service do I need on my 1998 Honda Prelude with 82,000 miles?
Hey Guys…What service should I get done on my car with 82,000 mile. I haven’t really done much maintenance on the car? I was think Timing Belt, Fuel Filter, Air Filter, Cooling Flush, Cooling System Tube replaced and rotate tire and alignment (run alittle to the right). Does that sound about right? Or is there anything else I need to get services?

A: transmission fluid flush i think every 30,000 or so, might as well change the spark plugs, cap and rotor, too.

Q: When does the second camshaft on my 1998 Honda Prelude Vtec engine kick in?
How many RPMS?

A: 4000 rpm if it is the same as the Accord motor. It is NOT a second camshaft, it is a hydralic accutator that shifts the lobe on the cam for higher lift and duration. This allows a milder cam for peppy of the line response (usually a weak area on a 4 cylinder) and still have the higher rpm boost from a higher performance cam.

Q: 1998 honda prelude check engine light is always lit, but sometimes it flashes?

A: STAYING on menas there is a problem.. FLASHING means there is a misfire occuring and will clog your cat converter quickly. Falshing overrides the "staying on" Take to the dealer, You`ve got problems! I`m $orry, I meant "problem$

Q: HONDA PRELUDE 1998 vTEC?
Im about to buy a 1998 Honda Prelude Vtech SH, it has 153k miles and is manual trans. is it worth buying this car for 3700 dollars. it has a bump in the back fender, whats good and whats bad about these cars??

A: tell someone who knows cars to check it out to see if theres anything wrong. check a blue book price on the internet. But otherwise Honda is a good little car for gas and reliability

Q: How can i get more power from a 1998 VTEC honda prelude without spending too much money?
I don't want a turbo car and this is a great car but what can i do? It's currently at 147kw at the flywheel with a 2.2lt VTEC engine.

A: in short the only options are air filter and exhaust you should get away with that for less than $1000

Q: Automobile Timing Belt Question – for a 1998 Honda Prelude?
Hi Guys…Quick question…I’m going to have my uncle replace my timing belt on my car, so I want to make sure I’m buying everything I need. Should I be buying the TIMING BELT KIT (which includes the timing belt, balance shaft belt, t-belt tensioner, balance shaft belt tensioner) or do I only really need the Timing Belt? The difference in price is $204 for the kit and the belt only is $46 dollars. Let me know

A: I WOULD GO AHEAD AND DO IT ALL WHILE I WAS IN THERE, INCLUDING THE WATER PUMP PROBABLY ABOUT A HUNDRED MORE DOLLARS. CAUSE TO REPLACE WHILE YOU ARE IN THERE IS EASY CAUSE U HAVE TO TAKE THE SAME STUFF OFF TO DO BOTH JOBS
