Q: Does my 1996 Honda Prelude really need premium gasoline?
Gas is $3.55 here now for premium fuel. Does my 1996 Prelude really need that kind of gas (that costs almost as much as an SUV to fill)?
A: See if it is recommended in your owner's manual.
Q: should i buy a 1996 honda prelude with 169K? is it worth it?
its manual and around $2000
do any problems start around this time for these type of cars?
any owners that already have the car ?
any advice u have?
A: A few years ago I bought a loaded VTEC '95 Accord with 150k for about $4500. I've got over 270k on it now and it just keeps running. It doesn't matter how I drive it (slow or fast, nice or mean) and I consistantly get 29-31mpg in it on the highway. I don't regret the purchase one bit, great commuting car.
If the Prelude is in good condition, I would buy it. That is about what they are going for now. Do the usual inspection before the purchase, keeping in mind that it is a 12yr old car, but I wouldn't let the mileage shy me away from it.
Q: can anyone tell me if I can use the JDM sat nav unit fitted to my 1996 Honda Prelude in the UK?
the unit works with its japanese cd but as I do not speak Japanese and really have no intention of driving in dowtown Tokyo I wondered if there was a CD that would work in the uk, or do I have to change the unit?
Honda not very helpfull.
A: im not sure you can. as honda didnt have sat nav on the uk model i dont think it was even an option. (im guessing your from the uk). if not try to source a cd from a higher range model like the honda legend. im sure that would have been fitted with sat nav on the higher spec models. and the cd would be the same.
Q: How do i change honda 1996 prelude thermostat and where is it?
A: follow top radiator hose to engine...thermostat is located under "gooseneck" usually 2 or 3 bolts...get thermostat and gasket or o ring ,,,before disassembly...quite easy...a small amount of coolant will leak out..catch in drip pan..(fatal to children and small animals) re assemble and refill radiator...
Q: Where can I find a diagram for a 1996 Honda Prelude engine?
I know I can buy them and supposedly get them on the internet, I am hoping for the latter. But I have not found em, only for the VTec engine which this car does not have.
A: hondahookup.com you have to register first
Q: Buying a 1996 Honda Prelude SI with 128,550 miles.?
Hi - I am in college and am looking to buy a car that will last me a while. I found this 1996 Honda Prelude SI and was wondering about how many miles I should expect out of it? I realize its different with every car but if you could give me a ballpark that would be great!
A: I HAVE WORKED ON MANY OF THESE VEHICLE THROUGHOUT THE YEARS AND THE FIRST THING THAT GOES IS THE A/C AND HEATING.
THEY ALSO HAVE A LOT OF ISSUES WITH THE ELECTRICAL AS WELL AS WITH THE RACK AND PINION.
THE ENGINE COULD GO PAST 200,000 BUT WITHOUT THE RECORDS TO BACK IT UP I WOULD NOT PUT ANY MONEY ON IT.
Q: can someone tell me if an alternator from a 2000 ford focus would work on a 1996 honda prelude?
or where i could find images from them to see if they look the same and have same fittings?
A: Oooooooooh no that wont work...
Q: 1996 honda prelude problem 2.2L DOHC VTEC?
I have a 1996 honda prelude with the 2.2 DOHC VTEC and a 5 speed manual, 177,000 miles on it.
I was driving a day ago and shifted into 5th gear and noticed my engine had shut off. I pulled over to the side of the road and tried to restart it. The car has gas and no error codes on the ecu. It turns over but will not start. I checked the spark plugs and timing belt and they are both good. I turned the key and can hear the fuel pump run. Any ideas?
A: ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
LEARN TO READ! THE TIMING BELT IS NOT BROKEN.
And it's not an old pushrod engine, even if the belt breaks it's not going to mess up the valves unless it's at high RPM's.
Q: 1996 honda prelude rims?

Q: How are 1996 honda prelude Si's?
Got an offer 2 buy 1 with 170,000 miles for 3,900. Im sure i can get him to 3,500 and its an automatic. Im not looking for a fast car just 1 i can depend on, think it still has some life left in it?
A: These cars are very dependable and are becoming rare. I know because I own two of them and 1990 and a 91. Both have less than 125k miles on them. But if you want an economical car that parts are easy to come by then get a civic. Preludes tend to be more expensive.
It would be a fast car if it has VTEC and a 5spd to accompany it. So you lucked out with the automatic. If it doesnt have VTEC it still has enough power to not to feel like a civic. 3,900 is alot for one that has 170k, auto, and if you dont know whether it has VTEC or not. If it does then I'd understand the high price.
This car has a lot of life left depending on how it was maintained. If you do buy it, change the timing belt...not timing chain, and adjust the valve lash. On Hondas valve lash should be adjusted every 25-30k miles, and it'll run forever with oil changes of course. Good luck!
Q: i broke my timing belt on 1996 honda prelude machanic said it's not bad ?
only #13 rod on 16 valve engine slightly bent how long before i lose my engine ?
A: There are two types of engines, Interference and non-interference. A non-interference engine means that if a belt breaks the pistons and valves won't be able to touch each other when the cam and crank turn against each other while the other type will let them hit each other. Even though it appears that there is no more damage you have to consider how many foot pounds of pressure it takes to bend a perfectly straight pushrod made of hardened steel inside of an engine mainly comprised of aluminum. Although it appears nothing else is messed up the aluminum absorbed the major part of the blow and the rod was bent at the end of the process, thus the weakest link. This has still created slight weakness in other areas most likely, whether it was to cause a minimal stretch of head bolts, weaken the head, or something else. Just replace the rod before running it any more and remember that the valve didn't hit flat against the piston most likely. Most heads are set up til the valves open at an angle against the piston meaning if they hit, it was on one side of the valve. Considering the valve is about the same strength as the push rod it is most likely warped as well and the valve seat might be damaged. This will cause a slight miss if it is . Once you put it back together if there is a miss you might want to have the head redone to save the engine. If a warped valve works back and forth for a while in a head it will wear out the seats and lots of times work the keepers loose and drop into the cylinder thus causing a busted piston, broke rod, scarred block, or cracked head. Basically, it can totally junk your engine. When it is back together, just be sure to listen closely for funny clicks, taps, and whines you haven't heard from it before and also check for misses. Do a compression test to determine if the valves are sealing like they should. You can get this done cheap or buy the guage and do it yourself. If everything checks ok drive the heck out of it. You'll probably never have another related problem...

I am looking for some rims that wont rust in the winter becasue i dont want to have to switch them out in the winter...
A: The links don't work, but as a rule, clear-coated aluminum wheels are much better than polished aluminum, in terms of holding up against oxidation.
Q: 1996 Honda Prelude Clutch?
As i was driving, i noticed that when i shift from 1st gear, to 2nd, i notice no change. Same thing goes to 3rd and 4th and 5th gear. It sounded like its staying in one gear and it took very long to build up speed, even if i revved it up to 7k RPM, the speed still stayed the same. Then I couldn't even go up a small hill in 2nd gear. Now my car won't even move. Is it because i have a bad clutch?
A: Sounds like the clutch is slipping. don't know what the mileage on the car is but the clutch is usually good for about 150,000 miles
Check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder. if its low chances are the clutch is toast. You can top it off if its low but I don't think that will help.
hope that helps
